ROSES AND POLITICIANS

 Roses & Politicians

Spring is here. Everything is awakening—roses are really happening.

Look out there, see all those huge buds, not only in our gorgeous garden, but everywhere. The rain has saved us and all of our plants are showing their delight with a spectacular display.

As I walk through the many  rows in our rose garden, bushes, with their sun-dipped leaves and swelling buds, surround and astound me. I can already imagine their full blossoms—their flashy colors dazzling, their luscious fragrances overwhelming.

Last year our garden was barely hanging on. I gave the plants only the scantest amounts of water—I held back on even feeding nutrients, hoping they would morph into survival mode.

And they did.

But this year, I think they’re going to outdo any of the glorious years in the past.

Funny how plants always remind me that survival is possible.

Today, even our political world seems better as I walk through our garden.  Oh yeah, it’s just as ugly out there, but it’s beginning to look like those who continually spout hatred and spread their ugliness like noxious weeds will be lopped off. And I have a hunch about who will lead the way, stand up to these demagogues.

Women!

As arrogant politicians continue to escalate their war on women, I believe all of these hurtful, harmful, individuals, whose only goal is to remain relevant in a bloody political arena, will find the end of the road. They’ll do themselves in because they have chosen to ride the expressway to extinction.

If politicians continue to point their poisonous fingers at women, mistreat and injure us, things will reach a tipping point. An unspoken sisterhood—one that unites all women—will stand up and push back.

Go on, keep talking as though women’s rights don’t matter and watch this huge electoral faction ignite and burn you to the ground.

Women are basically peaceful beings and fanning their flames to action can be difficult, but this particular crop of politicians is doing an outstanding job of shooting itself in the foot.

They are not in survival mode.

You want to jail us for having an abortion—treat us like criminals—continue to interfere with our reproductive rights? And, according to D. Trump, while women are jailed, men will get a free pass. Should they serve a jail term? No, says the Republican front-runner.

You, out there, sir/madam, you have lit the match that fuels the fires.

We won’t forget your names when we go to the polls.

I really was thinking of roses when I started this.

The Killing Vote cover 2

In This Fast-Paced Political Thriller:

Washington politicians and U.S. healthcare executives are conspiring in a sinister cost-cutting scheme to legalize selective euthanasia for the seriously ill and dying, primarily for the poor and powerless.

If secret legislation can slip through the quagmire of Congress, it will diminish the annual deficit by billions, if not trillions; catapult corporate healthcare profits; and get an unpopular President re-elected.

What the powerbrokers don’t anticipate is an in-your-face, militant seniors advocacy group becoming suspicious and hires an aggressive, semi-retired investigative journalist to expose the behind-the scenes manipulations.

                                                The deadline:  Seven days.

Can Ted Yost stop the power brokers? Or will arson, attempted murder, blackmail, and kidnapping stop him?

Some Reviews of THE KILLING VOTE:

Ambition, greed, hypocrisy—and murder. Bette and JJ Lamb have taken the battle over medical care and fashioned a droll, lightning-paced political thriller with more plot twists than Washington has scoundrels. I thought of the great Ross Thomas as I hummed through the pages. Prepare to laugh–and get ripping mad.

DOES PC = CIVILITY

 Pic Crying Earth!

Aren’t you tired of irate people screaming out their anger against other people?

Well, I’m fed up with it.

Lately, it never seems to end, and Donald Trump has become the poster child for that kind of nasty behavior.  Me, Me, narcissistic, stomping your feet, putting down those who disagree with you, is very ugly. And, yes—uncivil.

Yeah, I get it. At first, all that Trump drama and vitriol was kind of entertaining. But now it’s promoting outright hatred, and its spreading like a killer virus.

I, too, feel political correctness is phony and downright stupid. I’m a call-it-the-way-it-is kind of person, and I like to think I tell the truth—at least the way I see it. But throwing out hurtful and stinging comments because it’s seems okay to say any darn thing you want?

Have we forgotten how to be nice to each other?

Attacking others because you don’t like their color, their religion, or the fact they don’t believe in religion, or even that they just don’t see things the way you do, is not the way to live in our complicated, diverse society.

Most of us know people we don’t like, and the reasons are not often based on anything reasonable—and we know that. So why engage by throwing your half-assed opinion at them when they’re not interested and can get along without anything you have to say?

Shouting out nasty things just to be hurtful and feel that momentary rush of warped power, is not only destructive, it’s down right—uncivil.

Civility.

Excuse me, please, thank you, are not dirty words. And neither is political correctness, or kindness.

You don’t like black people? Or Asians, or Mexicans, or Joe Blow and the way he dresses? Well, it’s not all right to get in their faces with your scorn or hatred. It’s not only PC to bite your tongue, it’s a matter of live and let live.

Go mind your own business.

We’re all just trying to get along in a complicated world where not only our value as individuals has declined, but our planet, the very place we live in, is dying. Pushing people around is not going to make anything better.  But kindness, respect, civility will make you feel a lot better about yourself, and you might actually begin to understand others you thought you didn’t like.

If you can’t have an honest exchange of ideas why scream in someone’s face? Or like Trump, throw people out, or beat up those who come to your rallies to protest.

Take a deep breath and try to be kind. If you don’t want to be “politically correct,” and hate that whole concept, at least be civil. Take the time to think about it—you’ll usually find there’s something you can relate to.

Otherwise, we might as well start a Trump factory where they manufacture brown shirts. You know what that means, don’t you?

REAL HOPE

REAL HOPE

So Antonin Scalia is gone.

Am I sorry. No. He was an obnoxious man who should have lived and died in the thirteenth century. He was narrow-minded, bigoted, hateful, and out of step with the world we live in.

Watching the Republicans spew their hatred of President Obama during their debate, using Scalia’s death as a platform, was not surprising. But it does show the kind of men that are running for the highest office in this country. These small-mind, misogynistic, hypocrites are asking you to vote for their hateful agenda so we can all join Scalia’s thirteen century mindset. Crusades and all.

The President continues to try to do his job, and Congress continues to have the single goal of not doing theirs. Republicans do not want Barack Obama  to replace Scalia because they know whomever he chooses is going to be someone who probably has a liberal tilt.

Well, hell, it’s about time. I, for one, have no desire to live in a thirteen century world. I want to live in a world where women have equal rights and can make choices about their own bodies, where religion is a private affair, and where the rich don’t make  decisions on how to run our country.

Here’s what Senator Elizabeth Warren had to say:

“The sudden death of Justice Scalia creates an immediate vacancy on the most important court in the United States.

Senator McConnell is right that the American people should have a voice in the selection of the next Supreme Court justice. In fact, they did — when President Obama won the 2012 election by five million votes.

Article II Section 2 of the Constitution says the President of the United States nominates justices to the Supreme Court, with the advice and consent of the Senate. I can’t find a clause that says ‘…except when there’s a year left in the term of a Democratic President.’

Senate Republicans took an oath just like Senate Democrats did. Abandoning the duties they swore to uphold would threaten both the Constitution and our democracy itself. It would also prove that all the Republican talk about loving the Constitution is just that — empty talk.

Elizabeth Warren said it all. What a woman.

Fascism Lurks In The Open

pic blog Eye

 Fascism Lurks In The Open

I watched the last Republican debate on Thursday, as I have all of them. I don’t trust social media, on-line publications, or even the newspapers I read to report an event anymore. There’s way too much misinformation out there. I choose to witness things that are happening, if at all possible. How else can I make important decisions?

And this presidential election is drastically important. It could be a tipping point in so many areas—not only for the survival of Democracy, but the survival of the human race.

Yes, that’s how important it is.

Although I’ve never been a fan of Megyn Kelly, I have to say, she solidly stood her ground against that misogynist group of men. Ted Cruz tried all but punching her out to ruffle her and it did no good. She was ready for them and she didn’t give in.

Not once.

Cruz at one point even threatened to pull a Trump and walk out. We all knew he was too self-serving for that.  Nothing but an empty threat. I’ll even bet Trump regretted not being there—narcissist that he is.

You might guess that I’m definitely not a fan of Fox News, but they are starting to learn how to conduct this kind of event.  Along with their questions, they showed the audience TV clips where these candidates actually changed positions on issues with the ease of a snake slithering through the forest. The videos went back and forth with what these men said they “believed” at any given time. Their rhetoric changed with the mood of each crowd. And when faced with their lies, they merely lied some more.

To think I thought Mitt Romney was awful.

The fact that Donald Trump tried to bully the event by not being there—who can get along without The Donald—really backfired. For a bunch of politicians pandering to extremists, these men had more of an actual debate without all the ridiculous Trump facial expressions and speech patterns that reveal nothing of substance.

Face it! Donald trump is a fascist, and so is Ted Cruz. They make no bones about it. If we’re not careful, this country could end up in real trouble.

Trump and Cruz parrot Hitler and Mussolini—right down to the gestures and hate-filled speech designed to rile people who hate Blacks, Jews, Muslims, Mexicans …  anyone not Christian. If you are lily-white, a “religious” fanatic, they are seeking your support and your vote. And I’m sure you will give it to them.

Voting is the only key to stopping them. Every one of us has to get to the polls and vote or these men, or people like them could come into real power and lead us to total destruction.

Think about it.

If there is a Cruz or a Trump in the White House, there will be fighting in the streets, mass killings the like of which we have not seen since the Civil War.

Our country is in real danger. For those of you who think these men are merely clowns—forget it! None of the antics of Trump or Cruz are amusing or funny. These men are not buffoons—they mean business.

Make no mistake. They are a real threat to you and our democracy.

WE THE PEOPLE …

picture corporations rule

Donald Trump is an idiot. Ted Cruz is an idiot. Yet they are the two Republican leaders in the polls in the race for the Republican nomination for president.

We call Donald Trump a fool, buffoon, entertainer. Ted Cruz, likens himself to a messenger from God.

Make no mistake, these are calculating, evil men. We need to take them very seriously.

Donald Trump talks about using nuclear weapons and sending more soldiers to war when he’s never spent a day in the military. His money shields him from pretty much anything you have to go through to survive.

This “buffoon” thinks Mexicans are rapists, all Muslims are terrorists. He would have nothing to do with Iran or any other country that didn’t do exactly as he demands.

Don’t be fooled. He’s not joking with you, and he’s getting you to listen to him spout Fascism.

Ted Cruz makes negative remarks about New Yorkers and there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s wants you to believe that liberals and, of course, the Jews, who are all very rich, are causing the decline of America. Well, here’s a short list of “New York values:”

Carnegie Hall

Metropolitan Opera

Lincoln Center

MOMA

Whitney Museum

Guggenheim Museum

Broadway

Off Broadway

You might not care about any of these places, but they are representative of American values to the rest of the world.

And let’s remember that maybe the most important thing about New York is its people, its fantastic diversity.  Walking in the city, you will see not only every culture, but every income level represented.

Having been raised there, I can say that they get along with each other pretty damn well.

And just to join the chorus of those who don’t believe Ted Cruz is even eligible—being a natural born citizen—to run for the office of the presidency.

I say: A leading Birther gets smacked with Karma.

Both of these men tout fascism and hatred and distrust. Why would any country leader want to sit down and talk to them?

Can you imagine Donald Trump, who seems to hate anyone who is not an American, trying to talk to people around this diverse world we live in?

Remember, these men who tout fascism, would represent our county. If this means nothing to you, read about Germany, Italy, and Spain in 1930-40.

And as for the rest of the Republican candidates running for President, most are trying to eliminate Social Security, healthcare, food stamps, children’s assistance programs, money for our veterans, and any other socially responsible program that exists. Where will that money go to? To fund the military-industrial complex.

If we’re not very careful with whom we put in office, we could be the starving immigrants running to Canada … maybe even Mexico.

A NEW WORLD

Pic Dystopiia

                                            A NEW WORLD

Now that 2016 is here, it’s time to view the world not as it was, or what we might want it to be—but what it has become.

Every person on our planet must finally open their eyes to climate change and actively protect Mother Earth so life in our world can survive. Climate change is not a fictional concept or a science fiction fantasy. It is our now reality.

Some say it’s too late.

But with action, maybe we can slow down some of the devastation and hope that enlightened humans will find ways to off set some of the worst damage to our home.

We have to listen.

Maybe the destruction can’t be reversed, but maybe we can take the necessary steps to cope with it and hope to survive.

Renewable energy is there for us and has been for a long time. Now we have to tuck moneyed interests aside and try to save life on earth.

All of us have to stop murdering animals. To the people who kill other living beings for sport—you are not conservationists, you are murderers. That you see no value in other beings is the kind of fallacy that will destroy all humans as well. We cannot afford to act solely as individuals. Every one of us is woven into a continuum of life. We belong to each other.

All living things matter.

Stop destroying plant life for commercial gain. The forests are not only beautiful, they give you the air you breathe. If you think we can somehow manufacture air to survive—forget it.

Forget it!

Without the oxygen the forests and plant life provide, we no longer exist. Earth will become a dead rock among the lifeless gazillions floating in the vastness of an endless universe.

Human carnage.

When will we learn to live in peace? When will we stop trying to dominate each other with our religions, our land grabs, our energy dominance, our political differences.

Keep in mind that the primary elections are this spring—it’s time to weed out the flat earth society members. We have to leave the past behind, think about our tomorrows.

Vote!

The internet has shown every one of us what the whole world is like in an instant. It’s not a pretty picture.

Do we need to crumble and totally fall apart before we get the message?

It’s simple:

We have to care about what happens across the world—we are wrapped around each other in one way or another. We are all a part of the wheel of life.

We can make 2016 a real beginning.

Work for universal harmony, peace, and respect for every life form.

We can make every year a HAPPY NEW YEAR
